I there a problem with my laptop?

Recently my computer has been freezing up aft using at for at least more den half an hour. I try pressing ctrl-alt-delete, but I cant open task manager. I tried running a virus scan in safe mode, but dey didn't detect anything. Is there a serious problem with my laptop? O and I use Windows 7 and my AV program is Norton.
