Why is my laptop freezing, and my programs not responding?

My computer suddenly started freezing up all the time; by that i mean that my programs kept freezing and not responding, and i couldnt get them to close with ctrl + alt + del... So i did a system recovery and set it back to factory settings, and I am still having this problem........... Any ideas why, and even more important, how to fix this????? thanks alot :)
