My computer won't let me copy and paste files?

Alright, I'm running a Windows 2000 Pro and it won't let me copy and paste files...I've tried right-click>copy and then right-click/paste but that doesn't work...and then I've tried ctrl+c and ctrl+v but it doesn't work either...both times they make a ding noise...can anyone tell me how to fix this?
